JSSIS Champions The Cause Of Eco Friendly Living

Dubai UAE,30th January 2019 - It is with no doubt that we can call JSS International School, Dubai an eco champion, for the school endeavours in its efforts to improve the overall environmental health in every manner possible. Be it a large scale change or the little gestures, the school encourages its students to be eco-champions too.

The school building has been certified green by the Department of Health, Environment and Safety for compliance with the Trakhees sustainability criteria. 

The building is energy efficient and boasts of the following features:

• Efficient Envelope system
• Efficient Lighting system
• Efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC)

All the above enhanced the building’s energy performance by around 24% as compared to the ASHRAE 90.1-2007` Base Case building:

• Building envelope (Roofs, Floors, Walls & Glazing) that conforms to ASHRAE 90.1-2007 standards for thermal emittance, solar heat reflectance and solar absorption properties

• High efficiency air conditioning    units    in accordance with ASHRAE 90.1-2007 with temperature & air balancing controls

• Energy efficient lighting fixtures

• Installation of localized lighting controls for non-regularly occupied spaces#

• High efficient filters have been installed at the fresh air intakes to avoid the ingress of dust particles from the outside air. These filters have a high efficiency rating of MERV13 that is capable of arresting the dust particles of 10 microns up to 90% efficiency.

 Breathing  zone outdoor ventilation rates have been increased & designed to all occupied spaces by at least 30% above the minimum rates required by ASHRAE 62.1-2007.

The HVAC system supplies purified and fresh air to the occupants with highly effective filters that prevents the ingress of dust particles into the compound.

Our school also promotes eco-friendly transport and carpooling. Acknowledging the adverse effects of transport on the environment the school has also allocated parking lots for carpoolers and alternate fuel/ fuel efficient vehicles. The water consumption for irrigation of plants has been minimized by implementing state of the art technologies such as drip irrigation up to 83%..

The light fixtures are energy efficient and activated by sensors to reduce the wastage of energy, with localized light controls for places that are not regularly occupied.

Ultra-Low Flow Lavatory

Low Flow Showers

Fixture based reduction of potable water is 31%.

 The floors, roof, walls and glazing have been customized to abide by the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 standards for thermal emittance, solar heat reflectance and solar absorption properties. 

The school has also set up recycling bins at each corner of the compound, each sorted to recycle paper, glass or cans. The student body also organizes can collection drives and makes it a competition to encourage the students to actively participate in the movement. Waste materials have been reused to decorate the hallways of the school.
