Mayoor Private School Abu Dhabi re-imagines learning

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 25th April 2019 - Mayoor Private School, a CBSE school is the first school in Abu Dhabi to have incorporated Maker Learning into its curriculum and educational offerings. Maker Learning is a powerful pedagogy and practice that empowers young learners to be creative and critical thinkers, own their learning and explore engineering.

MPS sets itself apart from other CBSE schools, primarily because it emphasizes 'student centered learning' wherein the growth and holistic development of the child is ensured. Incorporating Maker Learning supports Mayoor School's goal of reaching greater heights of academic, co-scholastic and creative excellence.

The learning environment allows students to make important choices about how to design, make and illustrate the concepts they are learning in classrooms. This leads to students finding their own direction and developing ownership over the process of creation. Through creating these tangible objects, students develop a better understanding of the materials. explore engineering practices and foster valuable 21st century skills.

Maker Education, is the educational example of DIY culture known as Maker Movement. Mayoor Private School began their integration of Maker Learning after a 4 day extensive teacher workshop on Maker Learning provided by Consilience, a non-profit company that supports institutions and educators around the world.

Following the training, Mayoor has begun incorporating classroom makerspaces into its' primary classrooms. For secondary students, they converted half of the library into a makerspace to provide a collaborative environment for students to make and provide access to the tools, technology and materials that will help their projects take shape.
